Knowledge, Visualization and Ordering

Welcome to the KVO Laboratory homepage!

KVO's work involves engineering distributed systems using Web-based technologies that support knowledge, visualization and ordering. More recently the focus is on the evaluation of such systems.

In support of knowledge, visualization and ordering natural language processing, knowledge representation, information retrieval, data mining (KDD), usability, knowledge and data modeling techniques are employed.

The idea of the KVO Laboratory started at the University of Adelaide in 1994. KVO was affiliated with the DSTC CRC from 1998-2003 who employed many of the former research staff and funded some of KVO's research and software development projects. KVO was also supported from 1995-2001 by Defense contracts.

In 2006 KVO is aligned with the University of Wollongong's Centre for Health Services Development (CHSD). This affliation acknowledges our interest in Medical Informatics that began when KVO started at the University of Adelaide.

Much of what KVO have done with FCA and IR since 1998 is now called faceted search, an idea that is now attacting considerable interest in the IR community.

KVO also works with the Language and Knowledge Research Lab at Sydney University and the ARC's ARC Network in Human Communication Science and KVO's principle overseas collaboration is with TU Darmstadt's Forschungszentrum Begriffliche Wissensverarbeitung. and the Technical University of Dresden

KVO gratefully acknowledge the support of the University of Wollongong and the Commerce Faculty support team who host this web-site.
